Shattered Dreams

The Nari Baroque Ensemble is a finalist at the York International Young Artists Competition! To be selected as one of just nine finalists in this prestigious competition is truly a dream come true. We are so grateful and deeply humbled by this opportunity.

In preparation for the competition, we have crafted a special evening for our beloved audience. "Shattered Dreams" is a musical sandwich - in between the two programs we will be presenting in York, the audience will have a chance to join us in a conversation about our unique creative process, and gain some behind-the-scenes insights on the ensemble.

York Early Music Festival, 50th edition, National Centre for Early Music, 3–11 July 2026 - here we come! 🎶

A Dream Unmade
"A Dream Unmade" tells the story of idealized love, and its disintegration in the face of reality. With a mix of baroque arias and original declaimed texts, Nari takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster that begins with two beautiful love songs, continues through a shattered vision of love, and ultimately lands at a humorous, sarcastic aria denouncing love altogether.

A Shepherd's Dream of Love

On a river shore, a shepherd takes a moment's rest and falls asleep. His dreams are haunted by unrequited love, and he awakens in a desperation to make his love known. But he soon realizes that he had been deluded, ceases to idealize his loved one, and goes off to celebrate the better things that love has got offer.

This is the story of a "Shepherd's Dream of Love", carefully crafted with five stunning baroque arias presenting different viewpoints on love. Interweaving these with original declaimed texts, Nari brings the story to life in a captivating emotional journey, where longing transforms into desire, pain becomes fury, and disillusionment gives way to a celebration of love.
